June 21, 2000, Accountability needed Refinery officials must be held responsible for recurring mishaps, Daily Southtown, Opinions/Letters section.

An oil refinery on the border of Blue Island last Friday released into the air some 22.7 tons of a compound used in its manufacturing process. .   . The Premcor plant was formerly known as the Clark Oil refinery until a corporate name change last month. . . .Residents are rightly disturbed that the material released June 12 and 16 is the same compound that the Clark refinery spewed into the air in 1994, sending 48 Eisenhower High School students to hospitals. In the 1994 incident, the emission included low levels of metal as well.
